Bequests

Leave a gift in your Will, a treasure for our future generations.

Leave a lasting legacy

In leaving a gift to Presbyterian Support East Coast or one of its services (Enliven Older People Services, Enliven Disability Services or Family Works) in your Will, you’ll be supporting and empowering those most vulnerable and at-risk in your community.

A bequest, no matter the amount, can make an incredible difference to children and families facing multiple challenges in their lives. A bequest can make life seem less daunting for those whose disability hinders them from being actively engaged in the community. A bequest can also ensure that older people are kept engaged, healthy and socially connected in this busy world.

Magical treasure chest

Every day our counsellors and social workers support children who have experienced more trauma than most of us could ever imagine. Nurses and support workers support fragile, lonely older people to feel purposeful, have companionship and a sense of belonging, and enjoy meaningful fun activities. Imagine if you could give them a “magical treasure chest” with the power to change lives and create brighter futures. You can.

You can choose where your money goes

Leaving a bequest is an incredible way of leaving a legacy of caring in your community.

Since 1946, PSEC has supported disabled people, vulnerable children and families and older people through our work in Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti.

It's in the detail

How to leave a gift to PSEC in your Will

Leaving a bequest in your Will may seem daunting, but it is actually a straightforward process. The first step is to contact your solicitor or professional trustee. They will make sure your wishes are clearly and accurately recorded in your Will or added to your existing Will.

As your Will is a legal document, it is important to seek the right advice and wording from your lawyer, however, to leave a bequest to PSEC or our Family Works or Enliven services, we suggest the following wording.

“I give to Presbyterian Support East Coast  ‘a percentage of my estate’ or: ‘the residue of my estate’, or: ‘the sum of $’, for general purposes. I declare that the receipt of Presbyterian Support East Coast signed by the Chief Executive, or other proper officer, will be sufficient receipt and discharge for my trustees”.

Bequests ‘for general purposes’ will be used where the need is greatest. Alternatively, you may prefer to support and specify an area of our work that is of special interest to you.

Our details:

  • Official name: Presbyterian Support East Coast
  • PSEC Charity Registration Number: CC10279
  • Address: PO Box 8119, Havelock North, 4157

Types of bequest gifts

You can remember Presbyterian Support East Coast in your Will in a number of ways.

  • A percentage: you can leave a nominated percentage or fraction of your total estate.
  • A specific gift: You can choose to leave a specific amount of money, real estate, shares or any gift you wish to nominate.
  • A residual gift: after providing for your family, you can nominate that you want to leave part, or all of what’s left of your estate to PSEC. Its flexibility also means it is less likely to need updating over time.

Will power

Like many before, your generosity makes a difference. Walter Couper Miller died in Havelock North in 1986. In his Will, he made sure that his wide and daughter were looked after during their lifetime. Following the death of his daughter in 2019, Walter’s Will made provision for his estate to be distributed to Presbyterian Support East Coast. That careful planning is now benefitting the people in need here on the East Coast.

“The non-violence programme helped me realise how much I needed to change my ways and to control my frustration. It’s also helped me bond more with my kids.”
